Daily Deals 09/02/15

Today’s Nook Daily Find is a trio of novels by Mark Gilleo, all price matched on Kindle and all nominated for numerous awards; the first, Favors and Lies, was a winner at the 2014 Beach Book Festival and Love Thy Neighbor a 2014 National Indie Excellence Book Award winner. Audible has a classic series of short stories on life in Ireland, James Joyce’s Dubliners; there are several Kindle editions, but the one from Open Road is well formatted, under a dollar and was free late last year, so you may have it in your libraries. In the Kindle Daily Deals, we have one of my favorite hiking memoirs, David Miller’s AWOL on the Appalachian Trail (don’t miss his top five items to pack on the Amazon product page), a techno-thriller by PJ Manney and a historical mystery by Michael Wallace that I can recommend.

Today’s Kindle Daily Deal is Crow Hollow ($1.99), by Michael Wallace [Lake Union Publishing].

Book Description
In 1676, an unlikely pair—a young Puritan widow and an English spy—journeys across a land where greed and treachery abound.

Prudence Cotton has recently lost her husband and is desperate to find her daughter, captured by the Nipmuk tribe during King Philip’s war. She’s convinced her daughter is alive but cannot track her into the wilderness alone. Help arrives in the form of James Bailey, an agent of the crown sent to Boston to investigate the murder of Prudence’s husband and to covertly cause a disturbance that would give the king just cause to install royal governors. After his partner is murdered, James needs help too. He strikes a deal with Prudence, and together they traverse the forbidding New England landscape looking for clues. What they confront in the wilderness—and what they discover about each other—could forever change their allegiances and alter their destinies.
