Daily Deals 08/23/15

Barnes & Noble’s Bonus Daily Find is Sean Lowe’s For the Right Reasons: America’s Favorite Bachelor on Faith, Love, Marriage, and Why Nice Guys Finish First, which I featured yesterday at Christian Books on the Knob (see that post for the synopsis). Their main Daily Deal today is another book from the same publisher. The Audible Daily Deal is Thirteen: The Apollo Flight That Failed by Henry S. F. Cooper; Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read the Kindle edition for free, if you missed picking it up a when it was on sale last year. The Kobo Daily Deal is a thriller by Matthew Reilly, The Six Sacred Stones – I have the first in the series, so wil probably pick this one up, as well. In the Kindle Daily Deals, we have not only a book with a Starred Review, but on that was named on Publishers Weekly’s Top 10 Best Books of 2012 list.

Today on Amazon’s Gold Box, save 25% on Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs. This is the one I bought several years ago and still use now and then. I found it to be a bit low for working at my desk (and typing), but it does work well for playing video games on the WII.

In the Bonus Deal of the Day, save more than 33% on Select Thermos Back-to-School Products and up to 60% on Select Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry.

The Kindle Deals of the Day for those in the UK has several novels by Erica James today.

Today’s Kindle Daily Deal is We Are Water ($1.99), by Wally Lamb [Harper]. Library Journal Starred Review

Book Description
We Are Water is a disquieting and ultimately uplifting novel about a marriage, a family, and human resilience in the face of tragedy, from Wally Lamb, the New York Times bestselling author of The Hour I First Believed and I Know This Much Is True.

After 27 years of marriage and three children, Anna Oh—wife, mother, outsider artist—has fallen in love with Viveca, the wealthy Manhattan art dealer who orchestrated her success. They plan to wed in the Oh family’s hometown of Three Rivers in Connecticut. But the wedding provokes some very mixed reactions and opens a Pandora’s Box of toxic secrets—dark and painful truths that have festered below the surface of the Ohs’ lives.

We Are Water is a layered portrait of marriage, family, and the inexorable need for understanding and connection, told in the alternating voices of the Ohs—nonconformist, Anna; her ex-husband, Orion, a psychologist; Ariane, the do-gooder daughter, and her twin, Andrew, the rebellious only son; and free-spirited Marissa, the youngest. It is also a portrait of modern America, exploring issues of class, changing social mores, the legacy of racial violence, and the nature of creativity and art.

With humor and compassion, Wally Lamb brilliantly captures the essence of human experience and the ways in which we search for love and meaning in our lives.
